British Midland’s Spring Tour - November 1998

Whilst not officially recognised by the governing body as an official Tourni, British Midlands appearance at the beach football competition in March 1998 marks a high point in the sports social history. Police are still investigating claims by Ian Calladine that “I didn’t know where I was”. Coach and mentor Alan Bird made his first appearance at the Arif Castle.

Sand was clearly not the Midland teams favourite surface as they didn’t win a game (may have had something to do with their Nylon kit and the searing heat?), whilst Emirates lost in the semi-final due to some classic goal keeping errors - has Steve Elwood left for Australia yet?
